April 13th Parent/Guardian Letter from the Superintendent

April 13, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

First let me say that I hope that this finds you in good health. I met today with the principals our guidance counselor, teachers and our business official. We arrived at some decisions that we could all agree upon.

With the spring break time behind us, regular daily instruction will resume and will occur Monday to Thursday. Fridays will be reserved for completing unfinished work or projects or reading.

For high school students there are no Regents exams nor are there AP exams. It was decided today that there would be no formal final exams.  As you can see, it is important for students to do their daily work and readings since this is where the student’s grade will come from.

Third quarter academic recognition certificates will be mailed home soon. We will miss the opportunity to personally congratulate each student but these are not usual times.

We are actively working on a plan for a graduation ceremony and that is all I can say at this time. I will say again what I told the seniors when I wrote to them, they will have a graduation ceremony.

Unfortunately, the senior trip and the prom and the 8th grade trip must be cancelled due to the pandemic. These are disappointments but we must put it in perspective. There are people who will not survive this crisis.

I sincerely appreciate all of your efforts at home providing support to your child/children. I know that it is not easy to assist them with their school work. We are dealing with a tragic illness on a global scale and I wish you the best for you and your family. I look forward to having students in our schools again just as soon as it is safe to do so. Hopefully our governor will make a decision that gives us some opportunity for long range planning.

April 8th Community Letter from the Superintendent

April 8, 2020

Dear Eldred Community,

Just a quick reminder that all school buildings and grounds including the high school football field and track, are closed unless an individual is given specific permission to be on school grounds by my office.

The same ban was recently announced by the county regarding county parks.  I know that it is difficult to be indoors as the weather improves however these facilities and those of the county are closed for a reason. Social distancing is critical if we are to reduce the spread of this devastating virus. My goal is for all of our students to return to Eldred healthy and for everyone in their family to be well. This crisis is real and only people can slow it down.

Also, I will be in touch with you regarding the alternative to the Regents exams as well as the school election and budget vote just as soon as these matters are clarified by the governor or the State Education Department.

Once again, I sincerely appreciate how our community pulls together at times like this. I believe that we are a model for others to follow.
