August 4th Superintendent Letter

August 4, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

In response to a number of parent requests for their child/children to attend school daily should the governor decide to reopen schools, I present the following.

September 10th and 11th all students will be at home on their Chromebooks etc., learning virtually. This will provide our teachers and the students with a little practice.

We will begin with A/B alternating weeks “A” group will attend school the week of September 14-18. The “B” group will attend school the week of September 21-25. We will then assess our capacity to safely have additional students attend school while maintaining our capacity to socially distance students.

This plan allows for input from the faculty and staff as to the feasibility of increasing the number of students in classes and in the building. Safety is our number one concern.  I realize that this may result in some inconvenience related to child care and employment, however the safety of our students must drive our decisions.

By the end of the day on September 28th we should be able to inform parents who desired daily school attendance, whether or not the faculty and staff feel that the additional students can be added safely.

Many things could occur between now and August 28th.  The Governor will make decisions based on the total number of cases in each geographic area. Our teachers will recommend what they feel is best for students and safety.

Parents have the option of having their child learn virtually each week and not come into the school building. In this case children would learn from his/her teacher, but from home and at the same time as his/her peers. This is called synchronous learning. The child at home is learning and taking part in the lesson occurring in the class at the exact same time. The child at home takes the same breaks, lunch, rest and follows the same schedule as his/her peers in the school. If this is your wish, please inform your child’s principal.

Sincerely,

John C. Morgano Ed.D.
